Brand Introduction

NXP Semiconductors was founded in 2006. Its predecessor was the semiconductor division established by the Dutch Philips Company in 1953, and its headquarters is located in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The company name "NXP" is derived from "Next Experience" and retains the genes of Philips. NXP was listed on the Nasdaq in the United States in 2010, and the current CEO is Kurt Sievers. The predecessor of the company established an office in China in 1986. It has branches in 30 countries and regions around the world, with a total staff of over 30,000.

In 2014, NXP and Datang Telecom Technology Co., Ltd. jointly established Datang NXP Semiconductor Co., LTD. In 2015, NXP acquired Freescale Semiconductor, founded by MOTOROLA. After the merger, it became one of the world's top ten non-memory semiconductor companies and the largest automotive semiconductor supplier (Strategy Analytics), expanding its business in the Internet of Things and automotive fields, and focusing on developing secure and reliable edge computing, connectivity technologies and power management solutions. And establish a market leadership position in fields such as ADAS and next-generation electric vehicles.

In 2017, the company sold its voice and audio application solutions business to Goodix Technology of China. In 2019, NXP announced the acquisition of Marvell's WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity business assets for 1.76 billion US dollars and the construction of an artificial intelligence application demonstration base project in Tianjin Development Zone. In 2023, NXP and NIO reached a cooperation agreement to deploy 4D imaging radar technology, generating a global revenue of 13.28 billion US dollars for the year. In 2025, the company acquired Kinara and TTTech Auto to enhance its capabilities in AI and automotive platforms, and announced the retirement of CEO Kurt Sievers, who was succeeded by Rafael Sotomayor.

In the same year, the Dutch government imposed control measures on its subsidiary due to concerns over technology loss.
In 2016, NXP sold its discrete devices, logic devices and power semiconductors division, which had relatively low technological content and fierce market price competition, to China's Wingtech Technology for 2.75 billion US dollars. In 2017, Wingtech Technology officially renamed these brands as NEXPERIA. However, the operation and management headquarters is still in the Netherlands.

The crisis incident of Nexperia Semiconductor
The freezing of Nexperia Semiconductor's assets in 2025 was a ministerial order issued by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy on September 30 in accordance with the Materials Supply Act, forcibly freezing the asset adjustment authority of Nexperia Semiconductor, which is controlled by Wingtech Technology, for a period of one year.

On October 12, 2025, Wingtech Technology issued a statement opposing the administrative order. At the same time, a foreign executive of Nexperia Semiconductor suspended the position of CEO appointed by the Chinese side through legal procedures. The China Semiconductor Industry Association and the Ministry of Commerce have successively demanded that the Netherlands withdraw its intervention measures to maintain the stability of the global industrial chain. In the incident, the United States had demanded that the Netherlands replace the Chinese CEO of Nexperia Semiconductor as a condition for exemption from sanctions.

As a result, Nexperia Semiconductor suspended the supply of wafers to its packaging and testing plant in Dongguan, China, leading to the shutdown of Honda's factory in Mexico and the risk of supply disruptions for European automakers. On October 21st, China and the Netherlands initiated diplomatic consultations, but issues such as the shortage of packaging capacity have not been alleviated in the short term. On November 14th, Nexperia China stated that it still has the ability and confidence to pay all employees full salaries and benefits. On November 19th, Dutch Economy Minister Kallenius issued a statement on social media X, stating that the intervention in Nexperia Semiconductor had been suspended.

On the same day, the Minister of Commerce held a video conference with the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy on issues such as Nexperia Semiconductor. On December 11th, the Ministry of Commerce stated that China has, through the request of the Embassy of the Netherlands in China and the implementation of the consensus reached through consultation with China by the Dutch Ministry of Economy, urged Nexperia Netherlands to send personnel to China as soon as possible.
